HeroesRainy Roadtrip 3

They told me that the mine had been closed sometime in the early nineties. But the hole I stood in front of now had an icy wind blowing out of it with surprising strength, hinting at untold depth. With this hint of passageways piercing deep into the mountain I got down and crawled through the crack between the rocks.

For the down time during my trip I packed a box full of books. I've been enjoying dozens of mystery and adventure stories. Despite my own adventures, when I read the fictional adventures of others I cannot sometimes help to wistfully imagine myself discovering ancient tombs, and solving enigmatic puzzles.
Adventure novels seem to lend themselves to long, sprawling series, frequently following one or more characters throughout most of their lives. I'm not sure it's simply because the fans allow an author to indulge their pedantries.
After several years of Team Crowbar, I've realized that squirming through this one crack is not an adventure; in fact this entire trip is not an adventure. The adventure is found in the sum of one's entire life. Every day the adventurer steps out into an uncertain future, questioning, probing, and pushing a little further. Their job is never done, their story never really over.
