el Calderon

Three thousand years ago volcanoes laid waste to these lands again and again. As the lava flowed across the landscape it left great stretches of brutal terrain. The black stone glitters in the sun like so much broken glass. During the day the land heats up like a furnace destroying the ill-prepared.

Beneath the surface here however there exists another world. As the lava flowed underground it created deep tubes that hardened as they cooled off. These tubes still exist in a complex underground network.
The subterranean world’s air is thick and humid. Water is plentiful as it drips from the ceilings creating a thick mud across the floor. An uncomfortably icy chill grips the air in stark contrast to the heat far above.
At the end of the day a struggling figure emerges from the darkness. Cold and wet he pulls himself free from the yawning darkness. Dazzled by the return of light the shivering prisoner has returned from his struggles deep within the earth.
